Java Foundation: From Getting Started to Your First Program
Course facts
Download as PDF- Independent development of simple to moderate Java programs
- Confident use of variables, data types, operators, and control structures
- Structuring and reusing code with methods
- Object-oriented programming: Using classes, objects, constructors, and encapsulation
- Implementing your own mini-projects from concept to a working program
- Targeted use of AI tools for programming, debugging, and code review
Your in-depth introduction to the Java programming language—one of the most widely used languages worldwide, forming the backbone of countless applications in companies, banks, and government agencies. The training is structured systematically:
Day 1: Fundamentals
You’ll learn the ins and outs of Java, set up your development environment (IntelliJ IDEA), and write your first programs. You’ll work with variables, data types, operators, and strings, and learn how to process user input.
Day 2: Control Structures, Methods, and an Introduction to OOP
You’ll master conditional statements (if/else, switch), loops (for, while, do-while), and arrays. You’ll also learn how to structure your code effectively using methods and make it reusable.
You’ll also get a solid introduction to object-oriented programming: create your own classes and objects, and understand constructors, getters/setters, and encapsulation.
At the same time, you’ll use AI textbots (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and others) strategically as coworkers—for code generation, error analysis, and code reviews. This way, you’ll not only learn Java but also how to use AI tools productively in software development.
The course combines theory and practice in a proven format:
- Short theoretical segments with presentations
- Live coding and demos led by the instructor
- Numerous hands-on exercises that build on one another
- AI prompt exercises: Participants use AI textbots as learning partners
- Chapter exercises as practical mini-projects
- Interactive training with time for questions and discussions
Beginners in programming who want to learn Java from scratch. This course is especially suitable for:
- People switching to software development from other fields
- IT professionals who want to switch from another programming language to Java
- If you need a foundation in Java for your projects
Basic computer skills (working with files, folders, and the terminal/command line) are a plus. Programming skills in another programming language (e.g., Python, JavaScript) are helpful but not required.
