ENCAST
Implementing Multicast in Enterprise Network («ENCAST»)
Course facts
- Understanding and configuring multicast and troubleshooting
IP Multicast is unbeatable in terms of network efficiency. Applications such as IP-TV benefit from multicast in terms of bandwidth savings. However, multicast can also be used as «Service Discovery». The course shows how multicast works, how it is implemented, and how to troubleshoot it. Besides PIM Sparse Mode and Source Specific Multicast as multicast routing protocols, redundancy mechanisms like Anycast RP will be presented and tested in the lab. Two days with all the necessary knowledge about multicast and plenty of opportunities to put what you learn into practice in the lab.
Topics:
- Where multicast is used
- Multicast on layer-2, which mechanisms do switches know for multicast
- IGMPv2 and v3
- Unicast routing refresher
- IP multicast addressing
- Multicast routing in general
- PIM as multicast routing protocol
- Functionality of PIM Sparse Mode with Rendezvous Point
- Rendezvous Point redundancies and MLDP
- Analysis of the multicast routing table and flags
- Configuration of PIM Sparse Mode (PIM SM)
- Functionality of PIM Source Specific Multicast (PIM SSM)
- Configuration of PIM Source Specific Multicast
- Simulation of multicast transmitters and receivers
- Multicast in Cisco SDA - Software-defined Access
Exercises:
- Setting up unicast routing in the lab setup with OSPF
- Setup of IP-PIM-SM with RP (Rendezvous Point)
- Simulation of multicast transmitters and receivers
- Deployment of MSDP
- Set up Source-Specific Multicast in parallel to the existing PIM-SM setup
- Troubleshooting in Multicast
If you have multicast on your network or are planning to introduce it, this is the course for you.
Network knowledge in the area of routing is required.
